Bowen Technique

Bowen Technique

For some years now my uncle has been saying that I should look into some Bowen training. He’d had treatment for a troublesome knee with great success. Well in 2004 I finally took the plunge and learnt the technique. This has broadened my knowledge of bodywork and given another dimenson to remedial treatment for the practice.

Bowen Technique originated in Geelong, Australia with Tom Bowen, who developed the technique by working with both humans and animals in an instinctual way. His work has been studied and now passed on to become the therapy as we know it today.

It is a gentle form of treatment which alligns the muscles, ligaments, tendons and soft tissue of the body, creating energy centres within the body structure which stimulate healing, letting the body put it self right. It is different to the other therapies in that it is not full on contact for the whole of the treatment time. The treatment is essentially done on the couch, series of moves are made on the body, your therapist will leave the room for a few minutes after each one. These breaks allow the muscles to absorb the moves and the brain to set them in place. All the time the client is relaxing and unwinding as the treatment is performed. The effects are amazing! Not always straight away but as the body continues to heal over the next 5-7 days, patients report great improvements in all sorts of conditions.

The Bowen Technique can be used to treat frozen shoulder, sciatica, back pain, tennis elbow, asthma, colic, hormonal imbalance, migraine, neck pain, IBS, arthritis and so on. It often takes less number of treatment to reach a positive outcome, many people feel better after just three treatments, but these should be followed up with a regular maintenance treatment every 4-6 weeks. Initially you should plan to have three treatments, each a week to ten days apart, then your therapist will be able to gauge your healing response and advise on future treatments.

Initial consultation and first treatment £35 (allow 90 minutes).

Follow up treatments £30 (allow 60 minutes).
